Not just Chukwuemeka: RB Leipzig interested in another Chelsea player of Nigerian descent
Published: August 02, 2025
RB Leipzig have widened their interest in Chelsea’s young talents, with the Bundesliga club now targeting promising forward Tyrique George, in addition to their ongoing pursuit of midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, The Telegraph has reported.
Following a disappointing 2024/2025 season in which they failed to secure European football, Leipzig are working aggressively to reshape their squad ahead of the new campaign.
The German outfit are currently in advanced discussions with Chelsea over a permanent move for Chukwuemeka, who struggled to impress on loan at Borussia Dortmund.
However, Leipzig’s interest doesn’t stop there, the club are also keen on bringing in 19-year-old Tyrique George on a season-long loan deal.
George, who made his first-team breakthrough during the 2024/2025 campaign, is seen as one of Chelsea’s most promising academy graduates.
But his place in the squad is now under threat following the club’s aggressive recruitment of attacking players this summer.
The Blues have already completed deals for Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Brazilian wonderkid Estêvão Willian in wide areas, and are also reportedly in pursuit of Alejandro Garnacho and Xavi Simons, two players who could push George further down the pecking order.
With game time likely limited, Chelsea are said to be open to the idea of loaning George to gain regular minutes and continue his development.
As the summer window heats up, George, who is eligible to play for Nigeria despite representing England at youth level, will now be weighing his options as he looks to secure a move that guarantees the playing time crucial for his long-term development.
