Son of former Super Eagles left-back makes UYL debut for Chelsea in win against Bayern

Landon Emenalo made his first appearance in the UEFA Youth League on Wednesday afternoon as Chelsea came from behind to claim all three points in a 3-2 win over Bayern Munich.

An England U17 international, Landon is the son of former Nigeria left-back Michael Emenalo, who impressed at the 1994 Fifa World Cup as cover for the injured Benedict Iroha.

He was one of two defensive players of Nigerian descent named in Chelsea's starting lineup for the clash with Bayern Munich, alongside U18 captain Tayo Subuloye.

Chelsea and Bayern Munich delivered a thrilling contest marked by dramatic swings.

The Blues struck first in the 15th minute through Genesis Antwi, but Bayern responded swiftly as Felipe Chávez equalised directly from a corner before firing in a stunning long-range strike to make it 2-1 in the 26th minute.

After the break, Mheuka tapped in to level for Chelsea, and Murray-Campbell's brilliant volley restored their lead in the 62nd minute.

Bayern pressed for an equaliser, with in-form Nigerian striker Frank Egwuatu twice going close in the closing stages, but goalkeeper Bernal and the Chelsea defence held firm to secure a hard-fought 3-2 victory.

2025 Flying Eagles invitee Chizaram Ezenwata will have to wait for his UEFA Youth League debut after remaining an unused substitute throughout the contest.
