'A symbol of Leicester City – Besiktas president reveals the club legend Ndidi will replace
Published: August 11, 2025
Besiktas president Serdal Adali has expressed high expectations for new signing Wilfred Ndidi, describing the Nigerian midfielder as the ideal successor to club legend Atiba Hutchinson.
Hutchinson, who retired in 2023 after a decade of service to Beşiktaş, left behind a legacy as one of the most respected figures in the history of the Black Eagles.
Hutchinson enjoyed a decorated spell at Besiktas, lifting three Turkish Süper Lig titles, as well as the Turkish Cup and Turkish Super Cup.
Ndidi ended an eight-year association with Leicester City after completing his move to Besiktas last week, signing a three-year deal with a club option for the 2028-2029 season.
The Nath Boys product was widely recognized as one of the Premier League's best defensive midfielders.
Adali believes Ndidi has the attributes to fill the void left by one of the club's greatest players, Hutchinson.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Adalı addressed the club's summer acquisitions, singling out Ndidi as a player whose qualities extend beyond his on-field contributions.
"Orkun will become a Besiktas legend, winning trophies and championships," Adali was quoted as saying by Turkish newspaper Fanatik.
"Ndidi, on the other hand, has become a symbol of Leicester City, a symbol of consistency.
"He's a player who will fill the void felt by our fans after Atiba, and who will become their favourite.”
Ndidi has been cleared by the Turkish Football Federation to make his league debut after being officially issued a playing license.
The Super Eagles star will wear the number 4 shirt for Besiktas in the 2025–2026 season.
