'There's room' – Van Dijk responds as Reds alum Babajide asks if Liverpool are going for Isak
Published: August 10, 2025
2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations-winning forward Rinsola Babajide sparked transfer chatter on social media platform X on Saturday, asking: "Do you think we are getting Alexander Isak?"
Despite parting ways with Liverpool in 2022, Babajide remains an ardent supporter of the Reds and continues to share her views about the club.
Last month, after scoring her first international goal, she paid tribute to the late Portuguese striker Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away in a car accident.
Speaking after the FA Community Shield loss to Crystal Palace, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk admitted there is space in the Reds squad for attacking reinforcements amid speculation linking the Premier League champions with Newcastle United striker Isak.
The Anfield side reportedly had a bid in excess of £100 million turned down for the Sweden international.
The departures of Luis Díaz to Bayern Munich and Darwin Nunez to Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal could provide further funds for manager Arne Slot to make a move for another forward.
"Well, we just lost Darwin, he went to Saudi, and we lost Lucho, obviously he went to Bayern,” Van Dijk told talkSPORT, via Sky Sports.
"I think there’s always room for an attacker in order to strengthen us so let’s see what the window brings in terms of the balance of the team."
Babajide scored 21 goals in 58 appearances during her four-year spell with Liverpool.
She was named Liverpool FC Women's Player of the Season for 2019-20 after netting eight goals across all competitions.
