'Insulting' – Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea have rejected Dortmund's bid for Chukwuemeka
Published: August 15, 2025
Borussia Dortmund are keen to bring Carney Chukwuemeka back to the club before the close of the summer transfer window, but Chelsea are standing firm over the England youth international of Nigerian descent.
The Fifa Club World Cup champions have turned down Borussia Dortmund's latest offer for Chukwuemeka.
Transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano reports that the €20 million proposal, structured as a loan with an obligation to buy and a significant sell-on clause, was considered 'insulting' by the Stamford Bridge hierarchy.
Chukwuemeka spent the second half of last season on loan at Dortmund, making 17 appearances across all competitions and scoring once.
His performances were enough to convince the German club’s leadership to push for a permanent return.
However, Chelsea prefer a straightforward permanent sale as they look to trim their wage bill and remain within Financial Fair Play limits.
Romano added that other clubs have also expressed interest in the 21-year-old, who was left out of all the Blues' pre-season friendlies amid uncertainty over his future.
Since arriving from Aston Villa in 2022, Chukwuemeka has made 32 appearances for Chelsea, scoring twice.
