Published: August 15, 2025
Championship club Hull City have officially announced the signing of Nigerian winger David Akintola on a two-year contract, joining fellow Nigerian and Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi at the club.
The 29-year-old wide player brings extensive European experience to the Tigers, having made more than 270 senior appearances, including 147 in the Turkish Süper Lig.
Akintola most recently featured for Çaykur Rizespor, contributing four goals and nine assists in 49 appearances after signing in February 2024, with 36 of those outings coming last season.
His professional career began in Denmark with Midtjylland, followed by six loan spells across four countries, where he first impressed at Thisted.
The winger enjoyed successful periods in Norway with Jerv, Haugesund, where he finished as top scorer, and Rosenborg, scoring 26 goals combined while also playing in eight UEFA Champions League qualifiers for the latter.
A short stint in Cyprus with Omonia Nicosia preceded a productive spell in Türkiye with Hatayspor, where he recorded seven goals and seven assists in 37 matches during the 2020/21 season.
He then joined Adana Demirspor permanently in 2021, scoring 13 goals in 77 appearances and helping the club achieve European qualification in 2022/23.
On his move to Hull City, Akintola said: "I’m very happy to be here – I cannot describe the feeling. Hull have played in the Premier League before, so it’s a team I’ve known about for a very long time.
"Having the opportunity to play here now is a big privilege, and I’m grateful. I’m ready to give everything and help the team achieve big things."
Hull City supporters will now look forward to seeing the new signing link up with Semi Ajayi, adding attacking depth and international experience to the squad as the Tigers prepare for a competitive campaign this season.
