Record-breaking deal: Arsenal agree move for Shamrock Rovers' Irish-Nigerian midfielder
Published: August 24, 2025
Arsenal have struck a record agreement to sign Shamrock Rovers' highly-rated Irish-Nigerian midfielder Victor Ozhianvuna, according to The Athletic's transfer guru David Ornstein.
The 16-year-old, who has already established himself as a key player in Stephen Bradley's Shamrock Rovers side, is set to complete a move to the Emirates Stadium in what will be the biggest transfer involving an Irish club.
Ozhianvuna has made 15 appearances across all competitions in the 2025 season, scoring once and drawing attention for his blend of technical skill and physical presence.
His performances quickly put him on the radar of Arsenal scouts, who have been building ties with Irish clubs over the last three years.
The Gunners' deal is expected to eclipse Tottenham Hotspur's £1.6 million move for Mason Melia from St Patrick's Athletic earlier this year, setting a new Irish record.
Due to Fifa rules on the transfer of minors, Ozhianvuna will not be able to join Arsenal until his 18th birthday in January 2027.
Instead, he will continue his development at Shamrock Rovers over the next 16 months before officially making the switch.
He has already completed his medical, and the agreement could be signed as early as this week.
For Arsenal, the transfer marks the reward of a long-term strategy of investing in Irish talent.
Meanwhile, for Ozhianvuna, the move represents a dream opportunity to showcase himself on one of the biggest stages in European football.
