No going back: Rangers striker Dessers pictured in Athens ahead of Panathinaikos move

Panathinaikos are on the brink of finalising the signing of Nigeria international Cyriel Dessers, with the striker pictured in Athens ahead of a deadline-day switch from Rangers.

According to Gazzetta, Dessers travelled to Greece just hours after featuring in Sunday's Old Firm clash against Celtic.

The 30-year-old arrived in Athens in the early hours of Monday, touching down at 2:39 a.m. on a flight from London before heading to his hotel.

He is scheduled to undergo a medical later in the day, after which he is expected to be unveiled as a Panathinaikos player.

The Greek giants have beaten off competition from AEK Athens, Feyenoord and Hellas Verona to secure his signature, agreeing a €5 million fee with Rangers.

The move sees Panathinaikos land the 2021-2022 UEFA Conference League top scorer, who enjoyed a prolific campaign with Feyenoord during their run to the final.

Dessers has built a reputation as a consistent goalscorer across Europe, with 220 goal contributions (163 goals and 57 assists) in 396 senior appearances.

His career path has taken him from early spells at FC De Zwaluw Vechmaal, Union FC Rutten, K.S.K. Tongeren and Sint-Truiden, to professional stints with OH Leuven, Lokeren, NAC Breda, FC Utrecht, Heracles Almelo, Racing Genk, Cremonese and most recently Rangers.
