Done deal: Super Eagles striker completes record-breaking transfer to Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially confirmed the signing of Nigerian international Tolu Arokodare from Belgian side Genk in a record-breaking transfer.

The 24-year-old has signed a four-year contract with Wolves, with a club option for the 2029-2030 season.

The €27 million deal for Arokodare marks a record-breaking sale for Genk, eclipsing the €25 million move that saw Sander Berge join Sheffield United in 2020.

Arokodare arrives at Molineux after finishing last season as the Belgian Pro League’s Golden Boot winner, netting 21 league goals and 23 in all competitions.

Standing at 6ft 6in, he has developed a reputation as a dominant aerial threat and clinical finisher, making him one of the most feared forwards in Belgium before sealing his move to the Premier League.

The Nigerian forward began his career in Lagos before moving to Latvian club Valmiera in 2019, where he struck 22 goals in 34 matches.

His performances earned him a loan spell at Bundesliga side FC Köln, before he switched to France with Amiens, where he scored 21 goals in 63 games.

In January 2023, Arokodare signed for Genk, quickly establishing himself as one of the league’s standout performers.

After scoring 15 goals in his first full season, he elevated his game last season with 21 strikes and seven assists, finishing as Belgium’s top scorer and attracting attention across Europe.

On the international stage, Arokodare made his Nigeria debut earlier this year and has already scored once in four appearances, finding the net against Russia in June.

He is now expected to travel to Uyo to join the Super Eagles camp, which opens on Monday, as preparations begin for crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa.
