'Age has nothing to do with it' – Tosin defends Chelsea youthful squad after loss to Bayern
Published: September 19, 2025
Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo has brushed aside suggestions that the squad is too young to challenge for the UEFA Champions League title, despite their 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old, who played the full 90 minutes, insisted that the players have already proven their quality on the biggest stage, pointing to their recent success at the FIFA World Cup as evidence.
Speaking to Caught Offside after the match, Tosin emphasized the team's determination to fight for every point and dismissed doubts over their ability to compete with Europe's elite.
"No I think you guys know age has absolutely nothing to do with it," he said.
"You guys saw what we did in the Club World Cup to become World Champions.
"We had a young team and we had a young team today (on Wednesday) and we're just always out there to fight."
The former Manchester City defender reaffirmed the Blues' commitment to bounce back and change the course of the tournament in the matches ahead.
"Obviously, we have seven games, seven games that we are going out to try and win, that's our focus," he added.
Tosin who arrived at Stamford Bridge on a free transfer, played a key role in Chelsea's remarkable FIFA Club World Cup triumph in the USA.
The experienced defender now hopes the youthful squad can quickly move past the defeat and prove their quality in upcoming fixtures, both in the league and on the continental stage.
