Nigeria squad announcement: Fulham, Wolves, Brentford, Hull, Birmingham stars and MLSer called up

The Nigeria Football Federation has unveiled a 23-man squad for the Super Eagles' October international fixtures, with seven English-based players and New England Revolution midfielder Alhassan Yusuf among those selected.

Manager Eric Chelle has named three goalkeepers, seven defenders, four midfielders and nine forwards for the crucial double-header, as Nigeria aim to secure their place at the top of their World Cup qualification group.

The English contingent is headlined by Fulham's Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey and Samuel Chukwueze, alongside Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Tolu Arokodare, Birmingham City full-back Bright Osayi-Samuel, Brentford's Frank Onyeka and Hull City defender Semi Ajayi.

Krasnodar loanee Olakunle Olusegun could make his competitive debut for the Super Eagles, while striker Terem Moffi of OGC Nice earns a recall.

Ajayi also returns to the squad after missing the recent matches against Rwanda and South Africa through injury.

Nigeria currently sit third in their group, three points behind leaders Benin Republic and second-placed South Africa.

The Super Eagles face Lesotho's Likuena at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, South Africa, on Friday, 10 October, before returning to Uyo to host Benin Republic in their final group clash on Tuesday, 14 October.
