Super Eagles open training camp in Polokwane ahead of World Cup qualifier against Lesotho

The Super Eagles of Nigeria opened their training camp on Monday, October 6, at The Ranch Hotel in Polokwane, South Africa, in preparation for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho.

The match is scheduled for Friday, October 10, at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Head Coach Eric Chelle and his backroom staff have already arrived in Polokwane to oversee the team's preparations. Meanwhile, the 23 invited players are traveling from various locations via Johannesburg to join the camp.

Training sessions are set to begin on Tuesday, October 7, providing the team an opportunity to refine tactics, enhance cohesion, and assess player fitness ahead of the critical qualifier.

The camp also allows Chelle and his staff to finalize strategies and ensure the squad is fully prepared for the Lesotho fixture.

In Group C, Nigeria currently occupies third place with 11 points, trailing leaders Benin and South Africa by three points.

A notable development in the group saw South Africa’s 2-0 victory against Lesotho overturned to a 3-0 loss after fielding an ineligible player, Teboho Mokoena, who had accumulated two yellow cards.

With two matches remaining in the group stage, Nigeria aims to secure crucial wins to strengthen their qualification prospects for the 2026 World Cup.
