Six Nigerian Players Feature As England Qualify For Fifa U20 World Cup After Beating Holland
Published: July 15, 2016
Six players eligible to represent the Nigerian national team were in action on Friday afternoon as England Under-19s beat Holland 2-1 in their second group game at the ongoing UEFA European U19 Championship.
Chelsea trio Dominic Solanke, Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham were joined in the starting line-up by Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Joshua Onomah and Charlton Athletic striker Ademola Lookman.
The bad news for the Nigeria Football Federation is that they have to get approval from Fifa if they are interested in capping Lookman in future as today’s game against Holland was his first competitive appearance for England at any level.
In the Group B clash held at Donaustadion, Ulm, Germany, Liverpool starlet Sheyi Ojo came on as a substitute in the 62nd minute, replacing Solanke, while Lookman subbed out in the 75th minute.
Sam Lammers gave Holland the lead in the 10th minute before a brilliant finish from Dominic Solanke in the 36th minute leveled the scoreline, and in second half stoppage time Isaiah Brown netted the game-winner.
The Young Lions, who have qualified for the 2017 Fifa U20 World Cup following the win against Holland, will wrap up group play on July 18 when they face Croatia.
