Why Nigerian Duo Torunarigha & Iyoha Failed To Turn Up At Stadium For Germany Loss In World Cup
Published: May 20, 2017
European powerhouse Germany lost their opening game in the Fifa U20 World Cup to Venezuela on Saturday because they fielded an under-strength team.
Per the official teamsheet published by Fifa, four players, including Nigerian duo Jordan Torunarigha (Hertha BSC) and Emmanuel Iyoha (Fortuna Düsseldorf), were not physically present at the Daejeon World Cup Stadium.
Apart from Torunarigha tied down by his examinations in school, the defender will link up with the German squad in South Korea after Hertha BSC's final game of the season against Bayer Leverkusen, and the same applies to Iyoha.
Two second half goals from Ronaldo Pena and Sergio Córdova condemned Germany to defeat.
In their second Group B match, Germany will face off against Mexico on Tuesday, May 23.
