New Mikel Catches The Eye Of Chelsea U23 Coach Ahead Of New Season

The chances that Tariq Uwakwe will be promoted to Chelsea Reserve Team in the forthcoming season are high, as the the young Nigerian midfielder is training with the squad.
The England U18 international, who has been dubbed the new Obi Mikel in these parts, remains eligible for the Blues U18s squad but everything indicates that he will be gradually integrated into the U23 squad in the new season.
Sources close to Chelsea have informed allnigeriasoccer.com that Uwakwe has caught the eye of the U23 coaching staff in pre-season, and was involved in their 5-1 rout of Southend United in a friendly on Saturday.
The 17-year-old made his debut for Chelsea U23s in December 16, 2016, same week he scored against Cardiff City in the third round of the FA Youth Cup.
Uwakwe helped England to retain the 2017 Toulon Tournament in France this summer.
