Versatile Midfielder Set To Depart Chelsea After Eight Years
Published: November 27, 2018EFL League One club Charlton Athletic have handed a trial to versatile Chelsea midfielder Charlie Wakefield with a view to a transfer.
The 20-year-old started and went the distance for the Addicks U23 team in a 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace in the Professional Development League on Monday afternoon.
Wakefield is thought to be trying his luck elsewhere as his contract with Chelsea will run out at the end of the 2018-2019 season.
He has appeared once for Chelsea youth teams in the current campaign fueling speculation that he has been declared surplus to requirements.
Born in Worthing, Wakefield played for the youth team of Brighton & Hove before he was snapped up by Chelsea as an U12.
He was loaned out to League Two club Stevenage FC in August 2017 but did not debut for the Hertfordshire side due to injury.
