Nwaneri could become youngest-ever player to feature in EPL, named in Arsenal squad v Brentford
Published: September 18, 2022
Arsenal attacking midfielder of Nigerian descent Ethan Nwaneri is in line to break an English Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Manager Mikel Arteta has named the Gunners schoolboy in the matchday squad for the match day eight clash against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium (Brentford, Middlesex).
Nwaeneri has been named among the nine substitutes along with Turner, Sousa, Tomiyasu, Holding, Smith, Lokonga, Marquinhos and Nketiah.
If Nwaneri is given minutes off the bench, he would become the youngest-ever player to represent Arsenal's first team, overtaking Spaniard Cesc Fabregas, who was 16 years and 177 days when he made his professional debut against Rotherham in a 2003 League Cup tie.
Aged 15 years and 181 days today, Nwaneri would also become the youngest-ever player to feature in the English Premier League even if he plays for one second, surpassing the current record held by Harvey Elliot, who was 16 years and 30 days when he played for Fulham against Wolves on May 4, 2019.
Nwaneri was aged 14 years and 44 days when he made his U18 Premier League debut against Reading on May 4, 2021 and played his first game in the Premier League 2 against Blackburn Rovers aged 15 years and 166 days.
