Nigeria-eligible duo take part in Arsenal's final training session before trip to Brighton
Published: December 31, 2022Manager Mikel Arteta invited two teenagers of Nigerian descent to train with Arsenal's first team on Friday, December 30.
Winger Nathan Butler-Oyedeji and attacking midfielder Ethan Nwaneri were both involved in the Gunners final workout at London Colney before the trip to Brighton & Hove.
Gabriel Jesus and Reiss Nelson have been ruled out of the tie due to a knee and hamstring injury respectively, while Emile Smith Rowe has returned to training but the game against the Seagulls may have come too soon for him.
The injuries suffered by the attack-minded trio have opened the door for the Anglo-Nigerian youngsters to receive invitations to train with Arsenal's first team this week.
A senior debut could be on the horizon for Butler-Oyedeji and it would be fully merited after his impressive performances for the development squad.
The 19-year-old was named the Papa Johns Trophy Player of the Group Stage after registering four goal involvements (3 goals, 1 assist) in three matches, and was on target in the round of 32 defeat to Stevenage.
Butler-Oyedeji traveled with the first team for their Europa League match against PSV Eindhoven in October but was omitted from the matchday squad.
