Official : Arsenal loan out Super Eagles-eligible midfielder to Wigan Athletic
Published: January 10, 2023With a statement on their official website, Premier League table toppers Arsenal have announced that Miguel Azeez has been loaned out to Championship side Wigan Athletic.
The Super Eagles-eligible central midfielder will be spending the remainder of the 2022-2023 campaign at The Latics.
An England youth international, Azeez spent the first half of the season at Spanish Segunda Division club UD Ibiza.
The Wigan Athletic coaches have a connection with Arsenal, with head coach Kolo Toure a key member of the 'invincibles' side that went undefeated in the Premier League in the 2003-2004 season, while his assistant Kevin Betsy previously managed the Gunners development squad.
The 20-year-old Azeez also worked with Betsy in the England youth team setup
He has been on the books of Arsenal since the age of five, rising through the ranks before signing his first professional contract in September 2019.
The Hale End Academy product made his senior debut for the Gunners in a Europa League match against Dundalk in December 2020.
Azeez will play with the number 20 at the back of his jersey during his time at Wigan Athletic.
