Panathinaikos, Genoa and Verona interested in Watford's Nigeria centre-back
Published: July 01, 2023Although he was retained by Championship club Watford for the forthcoming season, the future of Nigeria international William Troost-Ekong is up in the air.
The central defender returned for a second spell in the Serie A in the January transfer window, joining Salernitana on loan with an option to buy for the remainder of the season.
It appears Salernitana will not be taking up the option of making Troost-Ekong's loan deal from Watford permanent given that the Super Eagles assistant captain is being linked with other clubs.
According to Sky Sport Italia, there are many teams interested in the Tottenham Hotspur academy product.
Italian duo Verona and Genoa have him on their radar and are facing competition from Greek powerhouse Panathinaikos for his signature.
Troost-Ekong is being considered by Panathinaikos' technical director Giannis Papadimitriou and manager Ivan Jovanovic.
The 29-year-old has logged 68 appearances in all competitions for the Hornets since joining them from Udinese in 2020, and his deal runs out at the end of the 2024-2025 season.
He was a non-playing substitute in Nigeria's most recent international against Sierra Leone on June 18.
