Bologna striker Zirkzee named Best U23 Player in Serie A for 2023-2024

Nigerian striker Joshua Zirkzee has been named the Best U23 player otherwise known as the Best Young Player award,  in the Serie A for the 2023-2024 season having been in spectacular form for Bologna.

The Netherlands U21 international has been one of the breakout stars in the Serie A this season and has helped Bologna secure a UEFA Champions League spot for the first time since the 1964-1965 campaign.

He has scored against champions Inter Milan, UEFA Europa League winners Atalanta, Italian giants AC Milan and Roma over the course of the campaign.

With 15 goal contributions, the 22-year-old has the most goal involvements for Thiago Motta's side and only goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia has a better whoscored.com' rating than him.

After an impressive campaign with Bologna, it is unsurprising to see him being linked with an exit, with clubs within and outside England queuing up for his signature, with Arsenal being one of such.

The 22-year-old becomes the second Nigerian to win the Serie A Best Young Player of the Season award, with Victor Osimhen being the first to do so in the 2021/2022 campaign

Zirkzee is currently recovering from a hamstring injury which has kept him out of action in the past two match days in the Italian topflight.
