Published: June 21, 2024
With a statement on their official website, three-time Swiss champions FC Aarau have announced the signing of Liberian-Nigerian attacker Emmanuel Ernest.
Ernest has joined the Challenge League side from Northern Cypriot club Cetinkaya TSK, and has signed a two-year contract at FC Aarau, with a club option for the 2026-2027 season.
The 23-year-old started his career in Nigeria with Christ Ambassador Sporting Academy, from where he moved to Romanian club CS Sporting Rosiori in 2020.
He has cited Manchester United and Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo, Chelsea players past and present Didier Drogba and Romelu Lukaku and former Brazil international Givanildo Vieira de Sousa (Hulk) as his role models, according to Score Nigeria.
After leaving CS Sporting Rosiori, Ernest had spells with FC Rapid Bucuresti, FC Ripensia Timisoara, FC Arges Pitesti II (all Romanian clubs), Hamitköy SHSK (Northern Cyprus) and Al-Orooba (United Arab Emirates).
The dual-national striker caught the attention of FC Aarau after scoring 29 goals and providing seven assists in the season that just ended.
FC Aarau are competing in the Swiss second tier next season having finished sixth in the ten-team table in 2023-2024.
Ernest could make his debut for his new employers when they take on Thun in their season opener on Friday, July 19, 2024.
