'You can't compare Benin and Rwanda' - Troost-Ekong reveals Super Eagles will not underestimate the Wasps
Published: September 09, 2024
William Troost-Ekong has declared that the Super Eagles will not be affected by complacency when they face Rwanda in the second fixture in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Super Eagles kick-started their campaign with a massive win over Benin last Saturday, to put an end to their bad run of form since the conclusion of the AFCON in February and will be motivated heading into tomorrow's clash.
Rwanda faced Libya in their opening group game but were unable to secure maximum points against the North African side, with the tie ending in a draw and will be seeking their first victory against Nigeria.
Speaking during his pre-match duties ahead of the clash, Troost-Ekong stated that the Super Eagles will not take Rwanda for granted after getting a victory against the Cheetahs, admitting that it is going to be a different contest.
The veteran defender said: "The game against Benin was good for us. It is going to be very different. You can't compare Benin and Rwanda, and it is going to be a new challenge separately, and the game away from home, it is going to be different.
"Like you said before, it is going to be a great challenge for us and we want to keep the momentum going."
He added: "Rwanda is a good team, we respect them. We played them already in the World Cup qualifiers, they are currently top of the group.
"We are looking forward to a good game tomorrow. The boys are very highly motivated. We came here with one objective, to win the game.
"We are very happy to see coach Eguavoen back with us. We are one big family, we are complete now, maybe we are missing a few faces who are regulars in the team."
Troost-Ekong played for the Super Eagles for the first time since the conclusion of the last AFCON against the Cheetahs and will be hoping to captain the African giants to another victory.
He earlier stated that he is eyeing the AFCON title after coming close in the last edition and is expected to play a role in helping Nigeria secure qualification for the next edition to achieve his dream.
