Super Eagles starting XI: Ayinde hails Eguavoen for selecting Boniface as Osimhen's replacement
Published: October 11, 2024
Former Golden Eaglets striker Kehinde Ayinde has expressed his confidence in interim manager Austin Eguavoen's decision to select Victor Boniface to spearhead Nigeria's attack against Libya.
The Super Eagles are set to face the Mediterranean Knights on Friday, October 11, at 1700 hours in Uyo, with the team eager to secure a victory in front of their home fans.
To achieve this goal, Eguavoen has opted for a 4-3-3 formation, featuring a back four composed of Calvin Bassey, William Troost-Ekong, and Bruno Onyemaechi and Ola Aina.
The midfield trio consist of Alex Iwobi, Frank Onyeka, and Wilfred Ndidi.
In the absence of star striker Victor Osimhen, Eguavoen has placed his trust in Boniface, choosing him to lead the line ahead of Kelechi Iheanacho and Taiwo Awoniyi.
He will be supported by wingers Ademola Lookman and Moses Simon, creating a potent attacking front.
In an interview with allnigeriasoccer.com, Ayinde praised Eguavoen's selection, stating, “I think the coach has made a good choice, and I believe in any decision the coach makes because the player is in good shape. I have confidence in him”.
Ayinde expressed optimism about the team's overall composition, highlighting the blend of youth and experience.
"I have confidence in the team because it is full of young and experienced players. Seventy percent of the team are starters in their clubs and play for good teams in Europe."
Currently topping Group D with four points from their opening two matches, the Super Eagles will be determined to secure another victory, which would further solidify their position in the group and bring them closer to qualification for the biennial tournament in Morocco.
