George answers Iwobi: Nigerian teenager inspires Chelsea to comeback win after Fulham star's opener
Published: April 20, 2025
Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi continued his standout season with another stellar display, scoring in Fulham's 2-1 loss to Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.
Iwobi struck in the first half with a composed left-footed finish past Robert Sánchez after receiving a precise pass from Ryan Sessegnon.
The Nigerian international took a touch before drilling the ball low into the far corner, notching his ninth league goal of the season.
In addition to his goal tally, Iwobi has also registered five assists in 33 Premier League appearances—his most productive campaign to date, surpassing his previous stints with Arsenal and Everton.
Nigerian teenager Tyrique George netted his first Premier League goal for Chelsea, bringing the Blues level in the 83rd minute, while Pedro Neto scored the winner for the Blues in the third minute of stoppage time.
Iwobi's consistent form has made him a key figure for both club and country.
The performance earned him a place in Nigeria's squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda in Kigali and Zimbabwe in Uyo.
With Nigeria under pressure to secure qualification for the tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, head coach Eric Chelle will be counting on Iwobi to maintain his excellent form ahead of the Unity Cup and the restart of the qualification campaign on September.
Iwobi will hope to continue the impressive form as Fulham continue fight to secure a European spot.
