'It was Uche in the second half' – Crystal Palace boss warns Super Eagles midfielder after Millwall win
Published: September 17, 2025
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner delivered a post-match message to deadline day signing Christantus Uche following his side's hard-fought win over Millwall in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
The Getafe loanee made his second appearance for the Eagles, coming off the bench at halftime to replace Romain Esse.
Palace booked their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup after edging Millwall 4-2 on penalties, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Chris Richards put Palace ahead with eighteen minutes left on the clock but substitute Ryan Leonard's 90th-minute header forced a shootout.
Glasner was far from satisfied with his team's performance and namechecked Uche as he urged his players to adapt to the physical demands of English football.
Apart from the Super Eagles midfielder, Yéremy Pino, Walter Benitez, Jaydee Canvot and Borna Sosa were the other summer signings on parade at Selhurst Park.
Speaking to reporters at the post-match press conference, Glasner stated: "We complained about fouls. It was Romain Esse, a few times JP (Jean-Philippe Mateta), it was Uche in the second half. And I would say welcome to English football."
The Austrian tactician stressed that his players must learn to cope with the intensity rather than appeal for decisions.
"This is what they have to learn, what they have to improve. And then you can't complain about getting a foul because the game goes into the other direction.
"You can't get control over the ball in their half when you lose so many balls. We lost so many balls, so many duels.”
After eight games across all competitions, Crystal Palace have yet to taste defeat in the new season ahead of their next fixture against West Ham United in the Premier League.
