Newcastle forward tracked by Eric Chelle named in Premier League Team of the Month
Published: April 30, 2025
After his impressive performances in April, Newcastle United forward Jacob Murphy has been named in the Team of the Month by football stats platform WhoScored.com.
Murphy is among the dual-national players being tracked by Nigeria manager Eric Chelle ahead of the resumption of the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches.
However, it has been suggested that Nigeria face competition for his services as he's also on the radar of Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel.
This month, Murphy started all the six matches contested by Newcastle United in the Premier League, scoring three goals and registering four assists.
This achievement marks his most productive Premier League season yet, with a personal record of 19 goal contributions—eight goals and 11 assists.
Murphy was awarded a rating of 7.76, bettered by only two players, namely Wolves. Matheus Cunha (8.17) and Liverpool's Luis Diaz (7.90).
Liverpool have contributed the most players to the Team of the Month with three, followed by Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Manchester City who have two representatives each, while Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers have one player named in the Best XI.
In addition to the players already mentioned, the Team of the Month also features Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa), Kieran Trippier (Newcastle), James Tarkowski (Everton), Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool), Ian Maatsen (Aston Villa), Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City), Alexis Mac Allister (Liverpool), and Omar Marmoush (Manchester City).
Newcastle's Carabao Cup triumph over Liverpool last month marked Murphy’s first piece of silverware with the club, where he delivered a standout performance in the showpiece.
