Southampton's Oyekunle equals Man Utd striker Chido Obi's record as U18 PL all-time top scorer
Published: May 01, 2025
Southampton goal machine Nicholas Oyekunle has equaled Chido Obi's all-time goal-scoring record in the U18 Premier League, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Oyekunle put his name on the score sheet as Southampton defeated Reading 3-0 in an U18 Premier League fixture on Wednesday, April 30.
Four minutes into the second half, the Nigerian forward converted a penalty to double the Saints' advantage.
With that strike, Oyekunle notched his 37th U18 Premier League goal, matching the record set by Chido Obi.
Obi's historic goal came on November 30, 2024 when he found the net for Manchester United in a 3-0 win over Stoke City at Clayton Wood Training Ground, surpassing Ellis Simms in the process.
Oyekunle has been in sensational form this season, topping the U18 Premier League scoring charts with 26 goals in 22 appearances.
The 18-year-old bagged 7 goals in 22 games over the course of the 2023-2024 season and tallied four in ten matches during the 2022-2023 campaign.
Oyekunle’s prolific goal-scoring has played a vital role in Southampton’s U18 Premier League South title chase, with the young Saints sitting second on 42 points, just two behind leaders Aston Villa.
He will become the outright record holder for the most goals scored in the U18 Premier League if he finds the net in Southampton’s final regular-season game at home to Leicester City this Saturday.
