Confirmed team news: Southampton striker Onuachu gets medical green light to play against Leicester

Southampton have been handed a major boost ahead of their Premier League clash against Leicester City at the King Power stadium as their Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu has received medical green light to return to the squad following a spell on the sidelines.

The Nigeria international was unavailable for selection due to an injury as the Saints were beaten 2-1 by Alex Iwobi's Fulham last weekend.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Southampton's interim boss Simon Rusk confirmed that Onuachu has returned to full training ahead of the trip to Leicester City.

However, it remains to be seen whether he will start on the bench or return to the starting lineup.

Providing a fitness update, interim boss Simon Rusk was quoted as saying by Southampton's official website: "We're in good health.

"Paul’s been training the last couple of days, he’s back in the mix, so that’s good news.

"Across the board we’ve had good training numbers this week, so we’ve got pretty much a clean bill of health as we stand here today."

Onuachu has been one of the few bright sparks in what has been a dismal season for Southampton, registering five goal involvements in his last twelve appearances in the English top-flight.

Despite having one year left on his contract, the FC Ebedei product is being linked with a move away from the St Mary's Stadium, just as he was last summer.

This season, Onuachu featured in twenty-six matches for Southampton, starting in eleven of them.
