'Adapted well'- Son of ex-Super Eagles defender reveals his goal is to play senior football for Chelsea
Published: May 03, 2025
Landon Emenalo, son of former Super Eagles defender and ex-Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo, has revealed that his ultimate ambition is to break into the senior team of Chelsea, as he continues to impress in the club’s youth ranks.
The 17-year-old, who is eligible to play for Nigeria, Togo, and the Netherlands, has been steadily climbing the ranks at Stamford Bridge.
Known for his versatility and exceptional passing range, Emenalo has emerged as one of the most promising talents in the Blues' academy setup.
His recent promotion to Chelsea’s U21 side marks a significant milestone in his young career.
Since making the step up from the U18s, Emenalo has shown maturity beyond his years.
Speaking on his progress, the teenage midfielder reflected on his progression, highlighting how the step up has positively impacted his development while also acknowledging the challenges that have come with it.
''The transition has been really positive for me,'' Emenalo told Chelsea's official website. ''I already feel I’ve developed a lot. Playing against older, stronger opponents has helped me improve quickly.
"Stepping up to Under-21s football has been a challenge, but I believe I’ve adapted well. That said, I’m always looking to improve and keep progressing - that’s the only way to reach the top."
While reflecting on his performances and commitment to constant improvement, Emenalo expressed his strong desire to eventually feature for Chelsea's first team.
"I reflect on every game. I think about what I did well and where I can grow. That mindset is key, as it shows I’m constantly striving to get better. My goal is to play senior football for Chelsea and I’m doing everything I can to get there."
His steady rise earned him a spot on the bench during Chelsea’s UEFA Conference League quarter-final clash against Legia Warsaw at Stamford Bridge.
