Southampton starlet Oyekunle overtakes Man Utd's Chido Obi as U18 PL all-time top scorer
Published: May 03, 2025
Southampton striker Oyekunle has etched his name into the history books, surpassing Manchester United's Chido Obi to become the all-time leading goalscorer in U18 Premier League history, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The young marksman continues to shine in front of goal as he set a new benchmark for future stars on Saturday afternoon as Southampton defeated Leicester City 6-1 at Staplewood Training Ground.
After Thierry Rohart-Brown's opener in the eighth minute, Oyekunle netted a historic goal in the 25th minute to double the Saints advantage.
The 18-year-old has now netted 38 goals in the U18 Premier League, overtaking Chibo Obi who has 37 goals to his name.
While it took the Manchester United starlet twenty four games to reach 37 goals, Oyekunle notched 38 goals in fifty five career appearances in the division.
The Southampton youngster has been in the best form of his career during the second half of the season, scoring in every game since December 18, except for the 4–3 loss to Chelsea on April 12.
Described as a dynamic forward, he boasts impressive pace, quick acceleration, deadly finishing, smart off-the-ball movement, agility and strong athletic traits.
Eligible to represent the Flying Eagles through his parents, Oyekunle remains uncapped by England at youth level—leaving his international future wide open.
