'Won this title several times' - Morocco coach warns his players to be wary of Flying Eagles counter-attacks
Published: May 04, 2025
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Morocco U20 national team head coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, has urged his players to be cautious of the Flying Eagles' dangerous counter-attacks ahead of their heavyweight clash on Sunday evening in the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations.
The Atlas Cubs are set to face Nigeria at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo in what is expected to be one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament so far.
With both teams picking up victories in their opening Group B fixtures, the encounter could play a decisive role in determining who tops the group.
Morocco come into the match after a thrilling 3-2 win over Kenya, where they registered the highest number of shots on target (nine) in the first round of matches.
However, Ouahbi will be without two key players — Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal and Mohamed Yasser Zabiri, who are still recovering from injuries.
Despite the absences, Ouahbi expressed confidence in the squad depth, emphasizing that his team is well-prepared to adapt and compete at the highest level.
He has analyzed the Nigerian team's playing style and underlined the importance of staying alert throughout the match.
The Flying Eagles began their campaign with a 1-0 win over Tunisia, with standout performances from Oliseh and Caleb Ochedikwu, who each won 11 duels, and Emmanuel Chukwu, who led the game with eight clearances.
Coach Aliyu Zubairu has the full squad available and will look to capitalize on his team's defensive solidity and quick transitions.
Ouahbi highlighted that the Flying Eagles are known for their history and success at this level, noting that they have won the U20 Afcon title several times and the West African giants will pose a significant threat with their ability to swiftly move from defense to attack.
The Morocco coach has warned his players that ball possession will be crucial and stressed the need for tactical discipline to avoid being punished on the break.
