Chelsea Academy Player of the Season: Tyrique George follows in the footsteps of Solanke and Tomori

London-born Nigerian forward Tyrique George has been named Chelsea Men's Academy Player of the Season at the club’s end-of-season awards ceremony on Sunday.

By winning the accolade, George followed in the footsteps of cap-tied England internationals of Nigerian descent, Dominic Solanke and Fikayo Tomori, who won the Men's Academy Player of the Season award in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

Carlton Cole (2002) and John Obi Mikel (2007) are among the past recipients of Chelsea's Young Player of the Year award. 

The highly-rated youngster earned the accolade following his standout performances at both youth and senior levels across all competitions during the 2024/25 campaign.

George made several appearances for the Chelsea first team in both the UEFA Conference League and the Premier League, showcasing his quality and potential.

He scored one goal and provided one assist in 11 UEFA Conference League matches, contributing to Chelsea’s push toward European glory.

In the Premier League, George also impressed with one goal and one assist in seven appearances, further strengthening his case as one of the club’s brightest prospects.

At the youth level, George was equally influential, scoring six goals ,comprising three in the Premier League Cup, two in the Premier League International Cup and one in Premier League 2. 

In other categories at the awards, Moises Caicedo claimed both the Men’s Player of the Season and the Players' Player of the Season awards.

Lola Brown was named the Women’s Academy Player of the Season, while Marcus Bettinelli and Millie Bright were honoured as the PFA Community Champions for their off-the-pitch contributions.

With his impressive performances, Super Eagles manager Eric Chelle will be eager to convince the talented youngster to switch allegiance before the resumption of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
