Iwobi's goal against Chelsea up for Fulham GOTM, left-footed midfielder Nwoko also in contention
Published: May 05, 2025
Alex Iwobi's brilliant strike against Chelsea has been nominated for Fulham's Goal of the Month award for April 2025.
The Nigeria international is having the best season of his career in terms of goal involvement with fifteen in 35 outings in the Premier League.
Iwobi opened the scoring in the derby against Chelsea on April 20 but his goal counted for nothing as the Cottagers surrendered a one-goal lead with seven minutes left on the clock to lose 2-1 to the Blues.
Twenty minutes into the contest, the Fulham number 17 popped up on the edge of the box, took a touch and slotted the ball past the Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez with his left foot.
Tyrique George equalized in the 83rd minute before Pedro Neto smashed the ball in for the game-winning goal in the third minute of stoppage time.
Iwobi is not the only Nigerian nominated for the monthly accolade as left-footed midfielder Chibuzo Nwoko is also in contention for his goal against Nottingham Forest U21s in the Premier League 2 playoffs on April 28.
After coming off the bench in the 84th minute, Nwoko picked up the ball on the edge of the box, took a clever first touch, and unleashed a fierce right-footed strike into the top corner, leaving Murray-Jones with no chance in the third minute of extra-time.
The Nigerian duo have been nominated alongside Rodrigo Muniz, Parker, Seth Ridgeon, Emile Smith Rowe and Ryan Sessegnon, who has been double nominated for his goals against Southampton and Liverpool.
Iwobi and Nwoko share the same Nigerian agent, Emeka Obasi of Elite Project Group.
