Barcelona's search for a new versatile winger: Lookman and Man Utd loanee in contention
Published: May 14, 2025
La Liga powerhouse Barcelona are actively seeking to strengthen their attack this summer, with Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford and Atalanta dazzler Ademola Lookman emerging as the two top candidates, according to a report from Footboom.
Following a demanding season for Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, Barcelona are prioritizing the addition of a dynamic winger to improve squad depth and relieve pressure on their current starters.
Sporting director Deco is leading this initiative, aiming to bring in a player who offers both quality and versatility.
Rashford, who was linked with a move to Barcelona in the January transfer window before agreeing terms with Aston Villa, remains eager to join the Catalan club, especially as he appears to be out of Manchester United's future plans.
However, his high salary demands and recent inconsistency may count against him.
In contrast, Lookman has enjoyed a strong season with Atalanta and is admired by Deco for his pace, creativity and tactical discipline.
Atalanta are open to selling him for around €30 million, a sum Barcelona could manage with strategic sales or loan arrangements.
Lookman's willingness to adapt and his fit with Hansi Flick's playing style give him a slight advantage.
The reigning African Footballer of the Year has also been linked with possible moves to Premier League and Serie A clubs.
Since landing at Atalanta from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2022, the 2017 Fifa U20 World Cup winner with England's Young Lions has directly participated in 77 goals (52 goals, 25 assists) in 117 matches across all competitions.
