'They did so well' - Everton icon Yobo says Arsenal showed promise despite trophyless campaign

Everton legend Joseph Yobo has described Arsenal's 2024-2025 campaign as a 'mixed season,' praising the team's consistency and progress despite ending the year without silverware.

Mikel Arteta’s side are set to finish second in the Premier League for the third year running, although with fewer points than last season.

Their Champions League journey ended in the semifinals at the hands of French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Domestic cup disappointments came with a Carabao Cup semifinal loss to Newcastle United and a penalty shootout exit against Manchester United in the third round of the FA Cup.

Speaking on SuperSport, Yobo highlighted Arsenal's Champions League performance as a major positive.

"It has been a mixed season for Arsenal, we know what they are capable of, just following how they finished last season, with so many points chasing Manchester City almost to the end," Yobo noted.

"This season, I mentioned it's a mixed season because you take the good part from the Champions League.

"They did so well getting to the semifinals, the better team PSG won, so they will be happy with that."

Yobo acknowledged Arsenal's Premier League efforts as a sign of continued progress.

"Looking at the league again, they are set to finish second though with lesser points than last season. That also shows they are doing something good.

"They are very consistent and are actually pushing to be the champions maybe next season or after next season. They are doing well but at the moment no trophies yet."

Yobo went up against Arsenal 14 times as a player, managing just two victories and one draw, with the remaining eleven ending in defeat.

The Gunners have in their ranks the exciting attacking midfielder Ethan Nwaneri, who is of interest to Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle.
