Tottenham v Man Utd: Meet the two Nigerian teenagers eyeing Europa League glory tonight

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United will look to salvage their underwhelming seasons when they meet in the UEFA Europa League final on Wednesday night at the iconic San Mames Stadium in Bilbao.

While Victor Musa and Habeeb Ogunneye were not named in Manchester United's traveling squad to Spain, Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has taken two Nigerian teenagers to Bilbao.

Ajayi, 19, and Olusesi, 18, were both present during Tottenham Hotspur's final training session on Tuesday, suggesting they are in strong contention to make the matchday squad for the high-stakes clash.

Ajayi and Olusesi will be aiming to follow in the footsteps of Victor Moses, Obi Mikel, Ademola Lookman and Samuel Chukwueze, who have all won the Europa League in the past.

You can learn more about the highly-rated Nigerian teenagers below:

Damola Ajayi

Born: December 27, 2005 (London, England)

Damola Ajayi, a versatile forward capable of operating both off the right flank and through the middle, has been named in ten first-team matchday squads this season.

The 2022–2023 campaign saw him play a pivotal role in Spurs academy success, helping the club clinch both the U17 and U18 Premier League Cup titles.

He continued his upward trajectory last season as part of the U21 side that captured the Premier League 2 crown.

The 19-year-old made an instant impact on his senior debut, coming off the bench to score less than four minutes into his appearance during a 3–0 Europa League win over Swedish side Elfsborg.

His performances and potential were rewarded with his first professional contract, which he signed in January 2024.

Callum Olusesi

2007-born midfielder of Nigerian descent makes senior debut for Tottenham in win v Hoffenheim

Born: March 11, 2007 (Lambeth, England)

Joining Ajayi in the spotlight is Olusesi, a multifaceted midfielder whose tactical intelligence and composure have impressed the Spurs coaching staff.

Comfortable in defensive, central and attacking midfield roles, the England youth international has earned 23 senior call-ups this term.

He made his first-team debut in the closing moments of a 3–2 Europa League victory over TSG Hoffenheim.

Olusesi's leadership qualities have also been on full display this season, having captained Tottenham Hotspur in both the FA Youth Cup and Premier League 2, a testament to his maturity and influence on and off the pitch.

He signed his first professional contract with the club in March 2024.
