'We haven't heard' - Werder Bremen chief responds to Felix Agu's links with Fulham, West Ham
Published: May 22, 2025
Werder Bremen's head of professional football, Peter Niemeyer has played down speculation linking 2025 Super Eagles invitee Felix Agu with a summer transfer to the English Premier League.
The former Germany U21 international had a breakout season at Werder Bremen, scoring three goals in 22 Bundesliga appearances and clocked the fastest speed in the division on the final day of the season, having reached a top speed of 36.31 kilometers per hour in one sprint.
The German-born wingback won the most penalties in the recently concluded season (3), one more than the likes of Bayer Leverkusen's Nathan Tella and Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens.
Rumours of a potential summer transfer, including a move to England, have intensified following reports that his current deal, which runs through 2027, contains a release clause worth €8–10 million.
Premier League clubs West Ham and Fulham are reportedly monitoring Agu closely, with an eye on a potential move at the end of the 2024-2025 season.
But Peter Niemeyer has dismissed the reports, stating that there has been no contact whatsoever with Premier League clubs and emphasizing that Agu remains in Werder Bremen's plans for next season.
He told Die DeichStube (subscription required): "He's an absolute value-added player for us. Felix is an important part of our team, and we value him greatly as a player and a person."
Reacting to rumours linking Agu with a move to the Premier League, Niemeyer said: "We haven't heard anything yet; nothing has been brought to our attention that we need to consider.
"We are firmly planning with him for the new season."
Agu has played nonstop at Werder Bremen since 2020, after spending his formative years as a footballer at hometown club VfL Osnabruck.
