'One of the best' - Super Eagles assistant coach raves about Rangers midfielder after Unity Cup call-up
Published: May 22, 2025
Super Eagles assistant coach Fidelis Ilechukwu has described Rangers star Saviour Isaac as one of the best midfielders in Nigeria, following his invitation to the Nigerian senior national team for the upcoming Unity Cup.
Isaac, who has been a standout performer for Rangers this season, was included among the domestic-based players named in Nigeria’s 26-man squad for the Unity Cup.
However, he did not make the final 21-man list for the international friendly against Russia.
In an interview with Allnigeriasoccer, Ilechukwu—who also coaches Isaac at Enugu Rangers—praised the midfielder’s exceptional form and work ethic.
"Saviour is one of the best midfielders in Nigeria presently with almost ten goals and not a striker, and most of the goals were strikes from outside the box,” Ilechukwu said to allnigeriasoccer.com on Thursday morning.
"He has the capacity and the quality. I am very happy for him. He's very humble.
"He's a player who wants to learn under any coach and I think he would go far in his career.”
Isaac has tallied nine goals in 31 appearances in the Nigerian top-flight this season and the highlight of his performance was scoring a brace against a Kano Pillars team captained by Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa.
The 23-year-old went the distance in all the matches contested by Rangers in the qualifying rounds of the CAF Champions League.
Godwin was an influential member of the Super Eagles B squad that beat Ghana to qualify for the African Nations Championship.
