Done deal: Promising Nigerian fullback signs new contract with Arsenal

With a statement on the official website, Arsenal have confirmed that promising defender of Nigerian descent Cam'ron Ismail has signed a new contract with the club ahead of the forthcoming season.

Ismail, 18, has inked his first professional contract with the Gunners, four years after joining the club.

Born and raised in Islington, the tri-national fullback grew up just ten minutes away from the Emirates Stadium.

He is eligible to represent the national teams of Nigeria and Egypt through his father and mother respectively, as well as his country of birth England.

However, he is leaning towards committing his international future to the North Africans, having trained with their youth team in the past.

Originally a striker, Ismail began his football journey with Camden Elite and made the switch to fullback before linking up with Arsenal's Hale End Academy in September 2021.

The left-back was a regular for the U18s last season, making 16 appearances in the U18 Premier League, while also earning a handful of appearances for the U21s in Premier League 2.

Although he has been invited to train with the first team on multiple occasions, Ismail has yet to receive a call-up for an official game.

Last season, he made his first appearances in Premier League 2, the EFL Trophy and the UEFA Youth League, marking a significant step in his development.
