Flying Eagles centre-back wins league title with Brentford U21s
Published: May 22, 2025
Flying Eagles central defender Benjamin Fredrick celebrated winning the Professional Development League national title with Brentford U21s on Wednesday night.
The Young Bees came from behind to beat Bournemouth U21s 3-2 at the Vitality Stadium, with the Nigeria U20 international playing the full game.
It has been an eventful week for the Simoiben FC alum as he was named Brentford U21s Players’ Player of the Year at the club's 2024-2025 end-of-season awards before the trip to Bournemouth.
Fredrick started in defence alongside first-team defender Kristoffer Ajer, Benjamin Arthur and Josh Stephenson
Midway through the first half, Dan Adu-Adjei slotted the ball past the advancing Reggie Rose into the far-left corner, after he was released by American-born Nigerian defender Matai Akinmboni.
Trailing 1–0 at the break, Brentford turned the game around early in the second half with goals from Iwan Morgan and Romelle Donovan.
Although Bournemouth pulled level through William, Tony Yogane's late strike sealed the win and brought the trophy back to west London.
Fredrick appeared in 31 matches across all competitions in his second season with Brentford.
The promising teenager was named in the senior squad for four Premier League fixtures — against Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Aston Villa, and Bournemouth — though he is yet to make his competitive debut.
