Highly-rated fullback targeted by Nigeria coach Eric Chelle to join Brentford on permanent deal
Published: May 27, 2025
Italy U21 international of Nigerian descent Michael Kayode is set to end his four-year association with Serie A club Fiorentina this summer.
Born in Borgomanero to Nigerian parents, Kayode is on the longlist of dual-national players being targeted by Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle before the resumption of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
According to transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano, Kayode is no longer a Fiorentina player as Brentford have activated the €17.5m buy clause for the defender to join the Premier League club on a permanent deal.
The official announcement of the Italian-Nigerian defender's permanent move is expected in the coming days.
Kayode joined the Bees on loan in the January transfer window and the deal included an option to make the transfer permanent in the summer.
He went on to make twelve appearances in the Premier League, including six as a starter.
A European U19 Championship winner with Italy in 2023, Kayode has been described as a very talented and physical right-back, who has good ability going forward and is very good defensively.
The 20-year-old scored one goal and provided five assists in 49 appearances for Fiorentina.
