'Mission accomplished' - Obi Mikel sends message to Chelsea after Conference League triumph
Published: May 29, 2025
Former Super Eagles midfielder John Obi Mikel has congratulated Chelsea following their emphatic 4-1 victory over Real Betis in the UEFA Conference League final on Wednesday night.
The London club came from behind to dismantle their Spanish opponents in Wroclaw, Poland, securing their first piece of silverware since 2021 and completing a historic clean sweep of all five major UEFA men’s competitions.
Goals from Enzo Fernández, Nicolas Jackson, Jadon Sancho and Moisés Caicedo overturned Abde Ezzalzouli’s early strike for Betis.
Reacting to the result, Mikel took to his Instagram Story shortly after the final whistle to celebrate the Blues’ success.
In a simple but powerful post, he wrote: “Mission accomplished, congratulations to all Chelsea.”
Mikel, who spent over a decade at Stamford Bridge and won multiple titles including the Premier League and Champions League, remains a club legend and a proud supporter of Chelsea’s continued success.
His message resonated with fans who fondly remember his key contributions during one of the club’s most successful eras.
His post comes amid celebrations from Chelsea supporters worldwide after what has been a challenging but ultimately rewarding campaign under new manager Enzo Maresca.
The Blues not only lifted the Conference League trophy but also secured Champions League qualification on the final day of the Premier League season.
Mikel’s message highlighted the strong connection between Chelsea and its global fanbase, particularly in Nigeria, where the club enjoys a massive following.
