'I'd like to join Arsenal' - History-making Russian-based forward Olusegun names dream club
Published: May 29, 2025
Former Nigeria U17 international Olakunle Olusegun has expressed his admiration for Premier League giants Arsenal.
The talented forward enjoyed a solid season with Russian champions FC Krasnodar, contributing two goals in 19 league appearances as the club clinched the title.
On October 9, 2022, the 23-year-old Olakunle Olusegun made history in Russian football by scoring the fastest goal ever in the Russian Premier League, hitting the back of the net in under nine seconds against Rostov.
With that strike, he broke the previous record held by Emmanuel Emenike, who had scored for Spartak Moscow in the tenth second during a 2012–13 league match.
In an interview with All Nigeria Soccer, Olakunle Olusegun revealed that playing for the Gunners has been a lifelong dream.
The 2019 Fifa U17 World Cup star expressed confidence that he can still fulfill that ambition before the end of his career.
"When I was growing up, I'd like to join Arsenal, it was my dream club and I believe one day I will play there," Olusegun said to allnigeriasoccer.com.
Olusegun has enjoyed a steady rise since his standout performances for Nigeria's U17 team in 2019, where he scored three goals in ten appearances.
Since then, Olusegun has matured in Russia's top flight, contributing to Krasnodar's league-winning campaign.
Despite a modest goal tally, the young forward's pace, directness, and work ethic have made him one of the league's promising talents.
His historic goal and growing reputation suggest that he could soon be on the radar of clubs in more competitive European leagues.
