West Brom urged to sign Newcastle's Super Eagles-eligible forward turning heads at U21 Euro
Published: June 17, 2025
Writing for the72, Callum Burgess has urged Championship outfit West Brom to consider signing Newcastle United's Denmark U21 international of Nigerian descent, William Osula should they fail to land Lawrence Shankland.
The Baggies will be in the market for a centre-forward this summer as Adam Armstrong and Will Lankshear's loans have ended, while Josh Maja and Daryl Dike enter the final year of their contracts.
West Brom remain interested in signing Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland, but the 29-year-old has yet to decide whether he will stay in Scotland.
With Hearts awaiting his response to a new contract offer and West Brom in need of attacking reinforcements, uncertainty surrounds the move.
As Shankland's future hangs in the balance, the Baggies may be forced to explore alternative options up front.
Callum Burgess has highlighted three alternative forwards West Brom should consider targeting this summer, namely William Osula, free agent Emil Riis and Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana.
On Osula, he wrote: "At the time of writing, Osula is currently playing for Denmark’s U21 side in the EURO U21 tournament, catching the eye with three goals and an assist in just two games so far.
"Osula would be a different profile to those currently at West Brom boss Ryan Mason’s disposal and would be someone who would like to run in behind defenders, potentially benefitting from playing in a partnership alongside either WBA men Dike or Maja.”
Sheffield United academy graduate Osula scored two goals and provided two assists across nineteen games in his first season at Newcastle United.
