'We reached an agreement' - Dortmund chief confirms Chelsea loanee Chukwuemeka to stay for CWC

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has confirmed that Chelsea loanee Carney Chukwuemeka will remain with the Bundesliga side for the duration of their Fifa Club World Cup campaign.

The 21-year-old, who joined Dortmund on loan in January 2025 in search of more playing time, was absent from training on Sunday due to health reasons.

Speaking on the situation, Kehl was quoted as saying by Ruhr Nachrichten: "I conducted the discussions with Chelsea. We reached an agreement that he will stay with us as long as Borussia Dortmund is involved in this tournament."

Negotiations between both clubs over the Nigeria-eligible midfielder are ongoing, but Kehl remains optimistic that a resolution will be reached.

"There are still formalities to be taken care of, but we are very confident that we will continue to see Carney Chukwuemeka in the black and yellow jersey throughout the tournament,” he added.

Chukwuemeka has made 16 appearances and scored once for Dortmund since his mid-season arrival.

However, he has seen limited action at the Club World Cup, featuring in just 52 minutes across three substitute appearances.

Borussia Dortmund will take on Mexican club CF Monterrey in the Club World Cup round of 16 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia on July 2.

The Bundesliga side will hold their final training session in Miami on Monday before travelling to Atlanta for their Fifa Club World Cup round of 16 clash.
