Official: Manchester United loan out 19yo defender Ogunneye to League Two club
Published: July 15, 2025
Welsh club Newport County have officially announced the signing of London-born Nigerian defender Habeeb Ogunneye.
The 19-year-old has joined the League Two club on a season-long loan, subject to EFL and international clearance.
Ogunneye has been on the books of Manchester United for fourteen years, having joined the club at the age of five.
The right-back has been named in ten matchday squads for first team games but has yet to make his senior debut for the Red Devils.
However, he featured in last summer's pre-season friendly against Rosenborg in Norway.
Seeking minutes at senior level, he has linked up with Newport County and is available for selection in tonight's pre-season fixture at Optima Stadium.
He met and trained with the Newport County squad before tonight's friendly versus Weston-super-Mare AFC.
Ogunneye has represented Manchester United youth teams in the U18 Premier League, Premier League 2, EFL Trophy, UEFA Youth League and FA Youth Cup.
The highly rated fullback has faced first team opposition in the past, featuring against the senior teams of Stockport County, Barnsley, Doncaster Rovers and Huddersfield Town in the EFL Trophy.
The move to Newport County sees Ogunneye reunite with Dave Hughes, who stepped down as Manchester United U21s assistant manager at the end of last season.
