Are you going to answer? Chelsea star Tosin keeps fans guessing on Super Eagles decision
Published: July 23, 2025
Chelsea star Tosin Adarabioyo has refused to provide a definite answer on a long-standing question that has followed him throughout his career: will he answer a call-up to play for Nigeria?
However, the the London-born centre-back, who is currently in Lagos, Nigeria following Chelsea's Fifa Club World Cup triumph, acknowledged that the possibility of representing the Super Eagles remains firmly on his mind.
Tosin has previously represented England at youth level, featuring for the Young Lions' U16, U17, U18 and U19 teams.
The former Manchester City youth team captain remains eligible to play for Nigeria at senior level as all his appearances for England youth teams were in friendly matches.
As a result, he does not require a formal change of association to don the Super Eagles jersey.
Super Eagles coaches past and present, including former boss José Peseiro and current head coach Eric Chelle, have held discussions with Tosin's representatives regarding the prospect of the Chelsea defender committing to Nigeria's senior national team, but the player's camp requested additional time before making a final decision on his international future.
"It’s something I still think about. We'll see in the near future, hopefully, and I'll start to make a decision," Tosin told Arise News when asked about his international future.
"Obviously, it's been a topic for many years now, ever since I became a professional footballer. But again, like I said, we’ll see."
Tosin's reputation in the Premier League has made him an increasingly attractive option for Nigeria as they look to bolster their defensive line for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
"Everything comes into consideration. I can’t say anything specific right now, but overall, you have to look at the bigger picture and make a decision," Tosin concluded.
In his debut season with Chelsea, the 27-year-old Tosin featured in 41 matches across all competitions, netting five goals—his highest tally in a single campaign.
