'He was one of my role models' – Ngumoha reveals inspiration from Salah at Liverpool
Published: July 23, 2025
Liverpool’s youth academy continues to produce exciting prospects, and 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha is quickly emerging as one to watch.
Currently part of the Reds’ 29-man squad on their pre-season tour in Hong Kong, the promising forward is relishing the opportunity to learn from some of the club’s biggest stars — particularly Mohamed Salah.
Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Ngumoha opened up about the impact of training alongside the Egyptian forward, describing Salah as a major influence on his development.
"They really help the young players – especially me, Trey [Nyoni]. They help us really settle in," Ngumoha said.
"[Mohamed] Salah was one of my role models growing up obviously, so it’s really big [to be] learning from him."
Ngumoha also praised the professionalism of the senior players, pointing out how their dedication both on and off the pitch sets a powerful example.
"Everyone is really professional and you can see why they’re at the top. They’re always thinking about football, recovery, little things like eating right. So, [you] definitely can learn a lot from them."
The teenager’s comments come after he found the net in a recent pre-season fixture against Stoke City, further strengthening his case for a breakthrough season.
With his growing confidence and mentorship from players like Salah, Ngumoha is aiming to take the next step toward earning a place in Arne Slot’s first-team plans.
