2026 WCQ: Toyota Stadium to host blockbuster clash between Bafana Bafana and Super Eagles
Published: July 27, 2025
South Africa’s Bafana Bafana will welcome three-time African champions Nigeria to Bloemfontein for a potentially decisive 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifying clash on Tuesday, 9th September 2025.
The Matchday 8 fixture will take place at the Toyota Stadium, with kickoff set for 4pm GMT (5pm Nigerian time, 6pm South African time), according to Gordon Savic, Fifa’s Head of Qualifiers and International Matches.
Formerly known as Vodacom Park and later Free State Stadium, the 46,000-capacity venue located in South Africa’s judicial capital has a storied history.
Opened in 1995, the stadium has hosted several high-profile football events, including matches during the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
The highly anticipated encounter is shaping up to be a pivotal moment in Group C, with only the group winner earning a direct ticket to the 2026 Fifa World Cup finals.
Both nations remain strong contenders, and the outcome in Bloemfontein could significantly sway the race for qualification,
The match against Bafana Bafana will come just three days after the Super Eagles host Rwanda’s Amavubi on Saturday, 6th September, adding to the intensity of a crucial international window for the Nigerian side.
With national pride and World Cup dreams on the line, all eyes will be on Toyota Stadium as two of Africa’s football heavyweights battle for supremacy.
